SISTERS OF PROVIDENCE IN UGANDA
Blessing of “Providence House” in Nebbi, on January 30th
The whole of the General Council of the Sisters of Providence of Saint-Brieuc was in Nebbi, Uganda, at the blessing of the “Providence House” on January 30th.
Sr. Anne-Marie, Sr. Louise – residing on site – both councilors, with Sr. Huguette, Superior General.
Here is the information shared by Sr. Huguette about this event.
“The Daughters of Providence put their trust in God when, at the 2014 General Chapter, the Congregation agreed to accompany the birth of an African community at Nebbi” in Uganda, called the Sisters of Providence, in reference to the spirit of Jean-Marie de la Mennais.
Msgr Sanctus, Bishop of Nebbi, presided over the celebration and the blessing. The General Council wished to thank the founders of this young community, surrounding Bishop Sanctus and Sr. Emma, Sister of Providence, as well as Sr. Betty and Sr Maria, the first Sisters of this new congregation for their total confidence in this project.
The new house, named “Providence House”, is the formation house and the novitiate. It will allow this growing community to have the necessary space to welcome new members. To date, four novices and one aspirant are present.
The land was acquired with the help of the Brothers of Christian instruction.
“In France, Canada and England where our Sisters are becoming more fragile, this new bud, ‘Daughters of Providence of Nebbi’, brings a new energy and a lot of joy,” says Sr. Huguette Provost, Superior General. “Our Sisters are always interested to hear about this new community “.
Sr. Huguette also welcomed the contributions of Sr. Clothilda, Sr. Louise and Sr. Céline for overseeing the construction of “Providence House”.
The Brothers from Kisubi, 420 km away, were present: Bro Peter Kazekulya, Provincial, Bros Francis Byarugaba, Charles Musisi and Emmanuel Mutebi.
At Nebbi, the Sisters offer courses in sewing, hairdressing, literacy, entrepreneurship, religion and provide craft workshops including carpentry.
Another building is under construction: it will contain machines to make hosts so as to generate income to the young community in the future.
