Generalate of Rome

HPIM3722

Since 1972, the Generalate in Rome hosts the Brothers of the General Council, the General Administration services and a number of student-Brothers, mostly African.

In November 1824, Jean-Marie de la
Mennais settled in Ploërmel which thus became at once the main House of formation in France and the residence of the Superiors of the Congregation.

Chased in 1904 by anti-congregational laws, Brother Abel and his Council established themselves in Jersey. In 1970, the General Chapter decided to transfer the General House to Rome.

Reception

DSCN1427

Recent works at the Generalate do not affect the primary purpose of the house which is to be the Community residence of the General Council and General Administration Services personnel.

The renovation permits us to receive in a decent way a group of Brothers (up to fifteen) for formation sessions.

In addition, occasional hosting is restricted to Brothers’ relatives or friends of the Brothers accompanied by a Brother.

In no event shall the House become a “guest house” open to pilgrims and tourists. The Casa Menesiana de Castelgandolfo can provide this service.
