SOUTH SUDAN: RIIMENZE – Our Lady of the Assumption School

Reminder: The Brothers of Uganda founded a Community in Riimenze in 2013, in South Sudan, in the Heart of a relatively poor rural region. A Community House was first built, followed by a Primary School, with the support of NGOs from across the Congregation.

After delays due to political instability, the School was able to open in 2018. Currently, political instability does not always allow for the regular operation of educational activities, which often have to be suspended. Nevertheless, the Brothers remain courageous, supported by the local community, which ensures their protection. Despite these difficulties, Mennaisian vocations are beginning to flourish in this country: the first South Sudanese postulants have already joined the group of Ugandan postulants in Kisubi.

Our Lady of the Assumption School:

In 2024, there were over 880 Students, including 720 Boarders! The school is still growing!

“Here at Our Lady of the Assumption Primary School, as throughout the Catholic Church, we began the Lenten season on Ash Wednesday with the imposition of ashes on our foreheads; this Christian sign that invites us to turn away from sin and be faithful to the Gospel.”

“Every Friday, we experience the Way of the Cross with the students; the students take turns carrying the Cross while we meditate on the 14 Stations of the Cross. We will do this until Good Friday.”

Testimony of Brother Eugene, Riimenze.

This testimony invites all Mennaisian centers to share on www.lamennais.org  what is experienced during this time of Lent: a way of living in communion with one another, and to encourage us, during this Jubilee year, to keep Hope alive in our hearts!
