Tous concernés : des enfants, des familles, des parents, des personnes âgés, des paroissiens et 33 Frères de la Province St Jean Baptiste- France, Angleterre – ont marqué ce dimanche 22 septembre le 200ème anniversaire de la naissance d’Aurélien HAMON, dit Frère Zoël. C’est à Plouvorn, commune du nord-Finistère qu’il fut instituteur communal de 1842 à 1851.
Cet hommage organisé par la commune en concertation avec les Frères, à l’initiative de F. Rémy Harel, avec le concours de l’équipe éducative et des parents –Apel- de l’école Notre Dame de Lambader a rassemblé près de 250 personnes.
Après l’accueil devant l’église non loin de l’emplacement où était l’école à l’origine, une célébration eucharistique précédait une cérémonie au cimetière suivi de la pose d’une plaque à son nom sur un des bâtiments de la mairie. Un vin d’honneur était offert par la commune suivi d’un succulent Kig ha fars organisé par les parents de l’école.

Vénéré F. Zoël ! C’est le qualificatif employé jusqu’à aujourd’hui. Nombreuses ont été les familles à venir se recueillir sur sa tombe pendant longtemps, confiant les difficultés à marcher de tel ou tel enfant. C’est bien sûr aussi son image de bienfaiteur et de maître d’école de référence qui ont marqué. Voici pourquoi nous explique Kristian Gallic, passionné d’histoire locale, maître d’œuvre d’une belle exposition sur l’histoire de l’école et animateur de nombreuses rencontres avec les enfants de l’école.
Né à Plouha en 1819, F. Zoël arrive à Plouvorn en 1842, à 23 ans. Il fait la classe aux enfants dans la chapelle ossuaire Ste Geneviève où il accueille jusqu’à 114 enfants, acceptant tous ceux qui se présentent.
En 1847, aux prises avec la famine menaçant toute la population, il achète de la farine, utilise un des fours du bourg chez le boulanger Guillou et aidé de 4 personnes il se fait boulanger en produisant 8200 livres de pain pendant trois semaines. La population est sauvée !
En 1851, Plouvorn connaît une épidémie de typhoïde et de choléra. F. Zoël est à nouveau au rendez-vous pour visiter ses élèves et les familles. Atteint lui-aussi il meurt à 32 ans en 1851.

“Following Bro Zoel, the Brothers continued to sow the seed in the hearts of children and put the accent on “learning how to learn”, we pay tribute to you,” said François Pallut, Mayor, surrounded by members of the Municipal Council, during the ceremony.

Bro Louis NARZUL, 94, known as Bro Théophane, was greeted with great joy by many former students.
Personalities, guests, former students, everyone also liked to greet Bro Louis Narzul, 94, known in Plouvorn as Bro Théophane, who was headteacher of the school from 1947 to 1960 and from 1964 to 1973. He pursued an active retreat performing multiple services including binding, at the Juvénat Notre Dame in Châteaulin.

The Brothers left the commune in 1991 after 149 years of presence. Today, the school continues to be part of the La Mennais Educational Network.

During the celebration presided over by Fr. Jean-Yves Le Meur of Brasparts, Bro Jean-Yves Hamon commented on the gospel of the Good Samaritan, emphasising how much Bro Zoël responded to the hunger for bread, but also for instruction, affection, care, of the Word. “The Samaritan saw, approached, took care: three verbs that define his approach.”
